We’ve eaten at this location multiple times and it is our favorite. What we like about this place is you can count on good soul food at an affordable price. The staff is friendly, the food is well seasoned. We’ve enjoyed our experience when there is a DJ playing while we eat. We hope they will open an outdoor patio to elevate the experience even more. We will definitely continue to patronize this local favorite.
While in town on business for a few months, I came across Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish when I was looking for places to eat. I didn't try them right away. So when my daughter came to visit, she wanted soul food. I brought her here, and she loved it. Because she spoke so highly of it, I tried it the next week. She was right, they have really good food! She had the fried whiting with collards, candied yams, and mac n cheese. I ordered grilled salmon, candied yams, and the mix collards and cabbages. I never had my collards and cabbages mixed, but they were very good!! Highly recommend this place. It was on a Sunday both times, and they are slammed packed. The atmosphere is very chill and has a live DJ! It's in a small shopping center, so parking is very limited.
Food this place from an lyft driver, he recommended this place to be one of his favorite places to eat for Soul Food so we stop by before leaving back out. Our service was 10/10 ! Ms.Sharon was amazing and attentive! Love .. Love..Love her ! For the food I’ll rate it a 8.5/10 the Mac and Cheese was more on the milky than cheesy but that’s just my preference. We got the an appetizer, and two entrees total up to 64.80 overall great place!!!
Although the wait was long like 30-40 minutes when I went during dinner on a Saturday, the place was worth the wait. The fried chicken was delicious and well-seasoned, and the tartar sauce perfectly compliments the fried whiting and the shrimp. The macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and hushpuppies were also delicious.
I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. I was craving soul food and found Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish on Google... now I see why they are rated so high. The service was super friendly (love the entire staff!!), everything was clean (including the bathrooms), and the food simply the BEST I've ever tasted from a restaurant. Reminds me of Thanksgiving dinner. I got the Salmon, with Mac & Cheese, Candied Yams, and cornbread... all of it seasoned to perfection. My friend got this fried food platter (can't remember the name) that was huge and super filling for a big man. I can't wait to go back when I'm in the Charlotte area again, so I saved them to my favorites list.
Karina and Alyssa were great waitresses, very knowledgeable of the menu. Great prices for the value of the food. Potato salad, Mac n cheese, cabbage, fried chicken, philly cheesesteak, shrimp, fish,chicken gizzards n livers ...everything was delicious! Drinks are worth it too! Thank you for providing an establishment like this!
Overall, the experience was positive. Although reservations are recommended, especially during brunch, the wait time is not excessively long. The food and beverages were exceptional. I have returned twice since this review. (Fried lobster, highly recommended)
Mr Charles place was like an aunt & uncle's house you go to because you know they be throwin down in the kitchen. The food was great and I don't give out 5 stars all around unless it is deserved! I had the catfish filets w/ mac n cheese and yams. The wifey had the grilled salmon with cabbage and green beans. I will definitely return to Mr Charles chicken n fish when I am back in the area!
